My local friend Mitch texts me and replies to my message about hanging out this weekend. I thought we'd end up in Akihabara like we'd been talking about, but he replied with an unexpected suggestion.
"Do you like jogging?"
Saturday morning I found myself running around the imperial palace with Mitch. I had no idea he was a runner, and he didn't know that about me, either. It was so refreshing to do that, just hang out and exercize.
First, we dropped our stuff off and changed at this store, ArtSports, which is really dedicated to runners and running. Mitch said we could get lockers there, and also shower afterward before getting some lunch and hanging out. It was inexpensive to do this, and the store that it's attached to is really well-stocked for runners' needs.

He got changed, and we hit the street. Mitch estimated it was about 5 kilometers around the grounds. While I used to run in 5Ks before in the states, I was out fo training for one that day. I was worried it would take everything I had to keep up, as I hadn't run in at least a week before this.
It turned out to be great. The cool weather was my favorite temp to run in, there were fellow joggers out all over, and it wasn't too hard to keep pace wit Mitch, or him with me. We ran and chatted out way around, stopping only once to see a 64 Impala that was getting towed. It was in cherry condition, too.
Just before we reached the end, I told Mitch that we shuld sprint to the finish line. I opened up a little to see what he had, but I sensed not much change. Then I went flat out to the end. He was amazed. "You run so fast, you could win races like that."
I tried to tell him that my long legs take more energy to move, so I have to pace myself.
"Oh," he said. "You're built like an American Car. You're big, and you don't burn energy efficiently." We laughed at this, then he said "I'm like a Japanese car. I'm a little smaller, and I don't get tired as easily, so i can run more." This cracked me up to no end.
Composure regained, we returned to Artsports, showered up, and went in search of lunch. Our wanderings led us through nearby Ginza, and we ate at a restaurant I've wanted to go to called... well, I don't know the name. But it's like Thai, and really damn good. It's a little joint under the train tracks. We were both impressed.

E Set. Both delicious!

Satisfaction! A beer well-earned.
Later, Mitch took off for home and an English lesson. I killed time reading Imperial Commando until my rendezvous with Max to play volleyball with the Tokyo Gaijins social group. we had a great time, although for as much as I have loved playing volleyball in the past, I never learned the rules. It was a tough night, but the players were patient and encouraging. Busy day, busy weekend!

I don't go to stripclubs. I don't go in for watching ladies undress and me not having anything I can do about it but pay for a lapdance or pay for them to go away from me. Even then I don't see the point for myself.
That said, what I saw at Sketchy's once again changed the way I looked at a mundane skill, like it did for hula-hooping, and turned it into an athletic performance event.
( Posing on the pole with the greatest of ease, see the daring young lass at Dr. Sketchy's! )
